J C Ryle
John Charles Ryle was the first bishop of
Liverpool (Anglican / Church of England), 1880-1900.
He remained a strong defender of the evangilical reformed
faith in the Church of England during his
time in the ministry. His writings are devotional without
sacrificing sound theology.
He quotes - "My chief desire in all my writings, is to exalt
the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him
beautiful and glorious in the eyes of men; and to promote
the increase of repentance, faith, and
holiness upon earth".
