Mere Christianity Fiftieth Anniversary Edition

£7.99
The most popular of C. S. Lewis's non-fiction titles, Mere Christianity is compiled from the legendary radio talks which he gave during the war years.
The 50th anniversary edition harks back to an era when C.S. Lewis was able to bring comfort to millions at times of war and uncertainty, though his words are as pertinent now as they ever were.
During the Second World War, C.S. Lewis was called upon by the BBC to give a series of lectures - broadcasts that would ultimately bring new meaning to the lives of adults in all walks of life. Bringing together these legendary talks, Mere Christianity has become regarded as the most popular and accessible of C.S. Lewis's works, reminding us of the truly important things in life and showing the way to joy and contentment.

This book has helped me, and many others, to grapple with the underlying questions of one's very make-up and existence, to look at the world and the universe, both tangible and intangible, through the lense of the soul, in light of eternity, and to begin to grasp the significance of a God who has placed eternity in men's hearts and who yearns to be known and revered and loved for who He truly is, as He has loved and known us. *Some quotes from the book: "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." "Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning..." "All that we call human history--money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery--[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy." "[The natural life] knows that if the spiritual life gets hold of it, all its self-centredness and self-will are going to be killed and it is ready to fight tooth and nail to avoid that." "There is nothing indulgent about the Moral Law. It is as hard as nails...If God is like the Moral Law, then He is not soft." "The terrible thing, the almost impossible thing, is the hand over your whole self--all your wishes and precautions--to Christ."
