Michael has never issued a call like this before. He's challenged us to Live The Life and inspired us through albums including, This Is Your Time and Healing Rain. For years, he has led us in worship - but he has never said, 'I'm taking a stand. Will you join me?'

Through his church work away from the public spotlight and the new interaction that having children growing into young adulthood brings, and in the viewing of a world crying out for answers, Michael takes a stand and asks listeners to join him. Stand issues a call. 'This albums is called Stand. It is a call to stand outside the walls of the church, rubbing shoulders with the lost,' Michael says of the new project. 'It is a call to stand because you've captured a glimpse of something so powerful you cannot stay seated. It is a call to stand for the One who gave it all.'

This album is more than a collection of songs - it is an experience. It reflects ideas that have captured Michael W Smith's imagination with an urgency that comes through the music - a download of his thoughts and feelings as he leads worship at his home church. Themes include embracing the lost, stepping out of our comfort zones and taking a stand.

Eight of the tracks on this album were penned by Leeland Moorings, Lead singer and songwriter for the band Leeland.

It is the fastest-paced production effort Michael has been involved with, 40 days from start to finish, necessitated by the experience that Michael had in early 2006 when he promoted the feature film The Second Chance, in which he made his acting debut.

Michaels says, 'We need to think what happens in church on Sunday as only 10% of what it means to be the church. The rest of the week should be 90% of what it means to be the church, the real body of Christ.'
